Behind the success of every chef is their kitchen. Unlock the secrets behind a great kitchen.
A floor plan of your kitchen is a sneak preview of your kitchen on the drawing board. It should be simple, neat and of course understandable. You don’t need to be an architect to draw a floor plan; it’s easy. Follow these seven steps below to get your layout done in just 10 minutes.
1. Start drawing a simple core layout of your kitchen. Whether your kitchen is round or square in shape, draw it out. Don’t forget to add the doors details.
2. Include additional details where those doors lead. Perhaps it is connected to the living room or pantry; jot these details down. You might also choose to add important notes at the bottom of your drawing.
3. Where’s the sink? Most kitchens come together with a sink. If yours doesn’t, draw a symbol to show if there is any water taps around. You don’t have to be precise over the location of your sink. It can be moved elsewhere later.
4. Add the details of the windows location and their length. You can choose to draw simple brackets or lines to represent windows in your drawing.
5. Jot down the switches and electrical sockets location in your kitchen. To avoid any confusion, color switches in red and sockets in blue. Perhaps you need more sockets, draw the location where you want these sockets to be if it is so. Refrigerator, ovens and dishwasher require their own electric sockets. Do not overload one socket with more than one electrical appliance as this might cause short circuits.
6. After measuring the length and distance of your walls, jot down all your measurements on their specific location in your layout. Round up your measurements to the nearest two decimal points. Use arrows and lines to show distance.
7. Do you know where north is from your kitchen? Use a compass to identify where north is. It will help you to know which part of your kitchen will be sunny or shady during the day. With that, you might be able to choose the right interior design for your kitchen.
